Odd One Out: Geography — Rules & What Counts

Every round shows four options — three that belong to a category and one impostor. The question tells you the category ("Which of these is NOT a country in Europe?"), and your job is a single tap: pick the one that doesn't fit. A run is 10 rounds drawn from a larger pool of geography categories — continents, capitals, landlocked countries, island nations, borders and more.

The traps are the point. Guyana sits next to Ghana and Guinea in your memory but lies an ocean away; Sydney and Istanbul feel like capitals and aren't. Each round ends with a one-line explanation of why the odd one is odd, so a miss always teaches you the fact you were missing.

How to play

• Read the category question, then tap the option you think does NOT belong.
• You get exactly one pick per round — there are no second guesses, so think before you tap.
• Right or wrong, the answer is revealed with a short explanation before the next round starts.
• The timer counts up from your first pick; it's a stopwatch for bragging rights, never a countdown.
• After the results screen, "Review rounds" replays every question with the correct answer and explanation.

What counts in this quiz

• 10 rounds per run, drawn and shuffled from a wider pool of categories — repeat runs mix in different members and impostors.
• Every option is checked against the category as commonly defined: UN-member countries, official national capitals, the five Nordic states, and so on.
• One point per correctly spotted impostor; a perfect run is 10/10.

What's not included — and why

• No trick overlaps — an impostor is never arguably inside the category (you won't be asked to call Kazakhstan "not European" or Denmark "not an island nation"; borderline cases are simply not used).
• No repeat of the same category twice in one run — each round tests a different set.

Good to know

• Guyana is the only English-speaking country in South America — one reason it so often gets mentally filed next to African namesakes like Ghana and Guinea.
• Rio de Janeiro was Brazil's capital for nearly 200 years before Brasília — a city built from scratch — took over in 1960.
• Bolivia still maintains a navy, over 140 years after losing its coastline to Chile in the War of the Pacific.
